Soul WInning

From Palm Sunday through Mother's Day, the Lord has given us many opportunities to share His glorious plan of salvation with others. One adult woman came forward between Sunday School and the morning service and asked, "Can you show me how to be 'saved?'" A young couple came to the church inquiring about wedding arrangements, and went home knowing the Lord as Savior. One 17 year old was sitting on his mother's porch on a warm Saturday morning when the gospel was presented to him. He bowed his head and asked forgiveness of sins that morning. One of our members shared a gospel tract with a co-worker before lunch and that co-worker went home that day with Jesus in his heart! A young boy who visited our church for the first time heard the plan of salvation in the Children's Church and before he went home he stood before the church to give a profession of faith! It is our aim and our mission to share the gospel with any and all so that we might win souls to Christ. In those six weeks, we saw many different people come to know the Lord in many different ways through the efforts of many different people. GOD IS STILL IN THE BUSINESS OF SAVING SINNERS!

Construction Has Begun!

Helpers from Shawnee Mission Baptist Temple, Iola Baptist Temple and elswhere worked in the rain for several hours putting up the trusses. Two different newspapers covered the story to the glory of God. We have since covered those trusses with decking and started putting the shingles up. We have also been given all the doors we need from sources in St. Louis, MO. All we had to do is purchase the door frames. Meanwhile, the baptistry has been purchased and brought to Garnett by the Wicks family who drove to Texas to pick it up. Three families from New Testament Church Planting continue helping us with the work on the new sanctuary and fellowship hall, with one more family expected to arrive at the end of July. We could use all the volunteer help we can get because we still have a lot of shingles left to put up, and then we'll start working on the sheet rock inside!

Annual Tent Meeting

Our church is preparing for our annual tent meeting scheduled fot the end of August - first week of September. David Summerdorf will arrive with his motor home and family and one super Corvette that he shows off everywhere he goes. We are planning to meet in the tent each night at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug 28, through Wednesday, Sept. 3. Saturday, Aug 30, we will celebrate "God and Country Day" beginning with dinner on the grounds at 5:30 followed by music and preaching. Our tent meetings are ideal for rekindling the flame that God has put in your heart for His word, and for bringing lost loved oned to Christ. We will gladly receive an offering each night to help cover the evangelists travel expenses.

Summer Fun

Summer is here, no doubt. And, being in Kansas, we can expect hot weather. It is a time when many people try to remove as much clothing as possible. Let me take this space to encourage our members to carefully present themselves in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord. Light colored clothing draped loosely over our "temple of the Holy Spirit" is actually cooler and safer than running around with most of our skin exposed, and the rest of it bound up in tight fitting "mini-garments." It also reduces the tendency to cause others to sin.
